Dee SC 184 v 201 Wallasey YC.  Wednesday 8th February 2017.
Last Weds evening, Wallasey travelled to Dee SC to complete the double over a very much improved side, to set up a potential League Title showdown, at home against the current leaders Hoylake SC on Weds 1st March.
Dee SC could only muster 4 pairs on the night, but the inclusion of new club members Colin Wright and Steve Kirk, endorsed their recent improved displays. Wallasey's opening duo of Graham Lamont/Dave Hughes produced a black ball sucess, whilst Bruce Randles/Dave Parr struck a rock on Dees new signings of Dave Webb/Colin Wright. Wallasey's Mark Cooper and Jason Smith steadied the ship by reducing the arrears by 8 points before Pete and Richard Sutton (once again) took control of matters, guiding the team over the finishing line, with a magnificent 28 point victory over Dee's captain Mike McLaughlin and Steve Kirk.
Once again another very enjoyable evening, compounded by an excellent victory for the Wallasey crew, who are now focusing on their "head to head" clash with Hoylake on 1st March.
Special mention for the friendly and warmth companionship shown by the Dee club members and the delicious refreshments supplied by the ladies committee.   DP.

A well organised, fully attended and excellent refreshments provided by Messrs Pete Jacobs and Pete Sutton, which proved to be a complete success at this year's Flying Snooker Competition. The Plate Trophy was won by the inform Dave Hughes, who defeated Pete Sutton by scoring the required points to secure the trophy. The highest breaks were won by Paul Kelly and Pete Jacobs. Snooker captain, Dave Parr lifted the overall title, after defeating worthy opponents in Jason Smith, Colin Smith, Paul Kelly and finalist Richard Sutton, with a consistent display of controlled snooker. A very enjoyable evening made by the good nature, fine banter and sportsmanship, by everyone who took part.
The next match is at Dee S.C. on Weds 8th Feb for a 7-30pm start.
The team will be selected from:- J. Smith, M. Cooper, C. Smith, B. Randles, G. Lamont, P. Kelly, D. Parr, P.+ R. Sutton, D. Hughes.

West Kirby SC. 156 v 233 Wallasey YC. 18th January 2017.
It's been over a decade since a Wallasey YC side has gained a victory over the "Snooker Supremoes" of West Kirby and the Wallasey debutant Dave Hughes, became the Jewel in the Crown upon this night to remember.
On his first visit to the table, he notched up a magnificent 20 break (the highest all season) and along with his tactical partner Pete Morrish, gained a fantastic 35 point lead over the shell shocked Chris Booth and Dave Jones. Compounding towards this victory was the wonderful performance by father and son pairing Pete + Richard Sutton, who swatted away the pesty challenge of West Kirby Captain Tom Lounds + John Atkinson by a mouthwatering 73 points. The Wallasey partnership of Mark Cooper + Jason Smith took the sting out of theWest Kirby firepower, whilst Dave Parr and Graham Lamont made sure that West Kirby had no rearguard counter punch. A marvellous night for the Wallasey crew and supporters, whilst Dave Hughes will go into the Hall of Fame by his truly remarkable performance. Full credit to West Kirby for the sportsmanship, hospitality and delicious buffet supplied by the Ladies committee. A memorable evening for the Wallasey stalwarts, who have repaid all the years of hurt inflicted in the past by this West Kirby outfit, a truly wonderful night to remember!   DP.

It is with deep regret that I have to announce that Bob Cosgrove passed away on the morning of Monday 16th January 2017 following a sudden decline in his condition.

Bob had been a member of the club for many years, and was a past commodore, and he will be greatly missed by all. He was present at the Flag Officers' Cocktail Party on Christmas Eve, and had appeared to be dealing well with his treatment.

Our thoughts are with Penny and family.

Funeral Arrangements

Bob's funeral will take place on Thursday 26th January at 09:00, at Landican. Everyone is invited back to the club house afterwards.

Derek Atkinson
Commodore
