West Kirby SC 216 v Wallasey YC 231, Wednesday 6th December 2017.
The quarter sized Snooker table, that the home side use to their advantage, became a difficult proposition to some members of the Wallasey team, that resulted in a very slender aggregate points victory.
Wallasey's Colin Smith and Barry Shillinglaw threaded a careful path to record a 15 point win, unknowingly at the time, that this was this marginal lead, that would carry the result over the line.
Dave Hughes and Mark Cooper pulled back a 20 point deficit, to loose a game they clearly could have won, on a black ball fight by 5 points.
Middle partnership of Graham Lamont and Rich Sutton eventually won their match on the black by 11 points, insisting the table was not to their liking. The usually steady duo of Pete Sutton and Pete Morris, fired on three cylinders, conceding a game they know they clearly should have won, loosing on the black by 5 points.
The final pairing of Dave Parr and debutant "newby" Chris Pearson rode the storm, to consolidate a drawn game and take the slender 15 point lead back to Wallasey for the return in the New Year.
Once again, an excellent evening, a fair result overall and enjoyable company with a brilliant buffet.

Last Wensday's Flying Snooker Competition, with guests and friends from the Warren Golf Club, Bronze Social Club and our own Yacht Club members, was a complete success and a pleasure to watch and participate in.
The Snooker was fast and furious with games being decided by foul strokes, in offs, cagey snookers and in most cases, downright bad luck. The popular phrase often used by TV commentators "Where's the white going" was very evident, with several matches being decided with the white ball disappearing from the table.
Who can forget Pete Sutton and Pete Morrish's marathon game of strategy, where Pete Morris squeezed through to the quarter finals or Gordon Pollock from the Warren, smashing the white around the table, cascading off nearly every colour only to come to rest behind the yellow, for a match winning Snooker.
Prizes were awarded to quarter finalist, Derek Platt, Gordon Pollock and Mike Chapman from the Warren and Pete Morris from the Yacht Club, whilst Alan McMahon of the Bronze and Pete Jacobs (playing out of his skin) from the host team progressed to the Semi-finals. In an exciting final Paul Kelly of the Yacht Club, produced a gritty display but was overcome by a resolute Mike Robson from the Bronze to take this years title.
Many thanks to every player that took part and plaudits bestowed on Mark Cooper, Pete Sutton and Pete Jacobs for their valuable assistance, with a very special praise to Margaret Jacobs for supplying the delicious Hotpot Supper.
The entry is now open for the Clubs Christmas Snooker KO, limited to the first 16 members, with tables reserved for early rounds and the Semi-finals and Final tobe played on Friday 22nd December 2017.

Wallasey took a healthy 2 point win over an under strength Dee team, by virtue of higher aggregate score contested by only 4 pairs, due to the away side being only unable to provide 8 players.
An inform Dave Hughes and Mark Cooper found themselves in the loosing seat by 17 points to Dee's Colin Wright and Simon Morriella, by failure to apply any tactical discipline. Paul Kelly and Dave Parr read the script and completed an excellent 62 point victory over Dave Clements and Len Quinton, who became transfixed in the Wallasey headlights. The third pairing for Wallasey of Colin Smith and Rich Sutton took the 45 point batton handed to them and increased the teams lead, with a magnificent 55 point win that virtually gave the last Wallasey pairing an unassailable 100 point lead. Wallasey's last pair of Pete Sutton and "Mr Reliable" Pete Morrish, took on Dee's Captain Mike Mc Loughlin and Dave Fagan, to successfully guide the Wallasey team over the winning line, although only trailing by a marginal 14 points. Wallasey YC now take a 86 point lead away to Dee SC on Weds 17th January 2018.
A very enjoyable evening was had by all and the Wallasey Ladies Committee and helpers must be commended for yet another delicious hot meal, appreciated by everyone. From all participants a very hearty Thankyou!
